A Boy, A Girl and A Cup Of Coffee.

In the flow of the moment, he sent her a text asking her out to coffee. And she said yes.

A bold move on his part

So it began. The wait before the date.

His thoughts taking off in every direction.

“What if she doesn’t like me. Hope I don’t stutter. I am so nervous. If she likes me and if things work out, how far can I take it and can I really commit. What if I am wrong about her. What if she is not who I think she is. What if I don’t like her, but she likes me, how will I tell her I am not interested without hurting her. What if I like her and she doesn’t like me, what will I do ? Should I take this seriously ? It’s just a date. Nothing more. Things will be fine. But if this is the one I am waiting for, how will I know ? Maybe it’s like the movies. It will start raining or there will a voice from inside or nothing will happen. She might cancel, I would be sad and maybe relieved. No I am losing my mind . Let me call a friend but wait I might sound stupid. What should I do ?”

And soon the day arrived. It was scheduled for 5 pm in one of the most popular cafes in the city, which had an open verandah surrounded by trees. He was a little early for his Mother always told him to never keep a girl waiting.

She came in at 5 minutes after 5 and he stood up to greet her. She smiled curtly, and took a seat opposite him.

Even though she was as cool as a cucumber on the outside, her thoughts had gone into overdrive

He looks nervous. I think he was expecting someone else. Someone taller maybe. Damn it, I should have worn heels. But maybe he likes petite women?  Maybe it’s my hair, mom always says it looks like a bird’s nest. I shouldn’t have said this out loud. He’s not smiling. He thinks I’m not interesting. Why is he staring at my purse!? Does he think I’m only here for a free drink? Hmph! I’m a working woman, how dare he compare me to those sleazy freeloaders hanging out at the mall. It’s not like he’s such a rockstar. Raybans, how typical.

He smells like Rexona. I hope I don’t smell like Nani’s sambhar. I’ve told her a million times to close the kitchen door when cooking, everything smells of sambhar. That’s why he’s repulsed by me. He’s wearing Raybans and smells like deodorant. I’m a short, sambhar-smelling girl with a haystack for hair, who looks like a free loader!!!

Of course behind those Raybans, lay the thoughts of a very nervous individual.

Oh God ! she looks so mesmerising. And she smells so heavenly. I should  have used that perfume my aunt got me from America, damn it ! She seems so graceful and if she smiles, I am going to start blushing like an idiot. If my friends ever saw me like this, I am done for. Oh my God ! my hands have gone red. I should take my glasses off but I might not be able to stop myself from smiling like a monkey and I could come across as creepy ! Ahhhhhhhhhh, what am I going to do ?

“Excuse me, sir” said the waiter

“Yes” replied he

“Would you like to order for something ?

He looked at her “Would you like to have something ?”

She looked at him intently and said “A cup of coffee.”

The waiter asked “ Cappuchino ? “

She replied “Perfect”

He looked up the waiter and said “Same for me, please !”

After what seemed like a lifetime, the coffees arrived, neither saying anything in the meantime.

Lifting up their respective cups to their lips, the first sip of coffee rushed in, the aroma came bursting through rushing down their throat.

They couldn’t help but let out a  smile.

The ice had been broken and the world made sense again !

The Prequel

Another morning, another day and the only thing that remains a constant, a beautiful cup of coffee. As it brews and the fragrance hits your nose, awakening your inner temple.

And as you reach for your first cuppa of the day, you realise that it is such a perfect stimulant.

IMG_4702

Sipping very slightly and enjoying the first rush of caffeine entering your body, sparking of a reaction, making you smile ever so slightly. As the sleep recedes, it gets substituted with a raw energy that starts to heighten all your 5 senses while sharpening your 6th.

The killer of procrastination, the conqueror of lethargy, the king of stimulation (on the right side of the law.)

Ahhh what would we do without coffee.

The world truly woke up when it discovered coffee. The true elixir of the gods if I may go so far as to call it that. The resolve to be best version of you, only becoming stronger with every sip.

And how lives actually revolve around coffee. When a young fellow comes of age, he usually shows his interest in the fairer sex by asking them to coffee. If the young lady finds him interesting, she accepts. And over a stimulating brew, they divulge just enough so as to keep it interesting.

The fair connoisseur who lifts the nose at the most pungents of coffees, but the love for coffee stems from coffee itself. Coffee is liked by everyone and loved by the masses. One way or the other you find a reason to love it.

Walking into a cafe, the whiff of freshly prepared coffee gets you excited, and it raises your hope of a great experience.

The one friend who is always there even if life goes sideways. The one friend who always without fail, lifts up your spirits when you are down. The only best friend you will ever need.

So here is me raising my cup to you fellow coffee lover and wishing you all the good things in life !

Cheers 🙂

The Summer Tango

As summer approaches with  the ferocity of the gods, it seems to be difficult to make sense when you drink HOT coffee.

Now to this little dilemma, we have a tried and tested solution.

A Simple Cold Coffee !

One of the toughest things to do when you are in the coffee business is to get people to try hot coffee before you can actually sell the product during the summer season.

So instead we devised a simple, yet a very tasty cold coffee which after consumption will help you make sense of the world again .

The Recipe :

  • 150 – 200 ml Milk (Cold )
  • 3 Ice Cubes (Not more or else you will end up with a watery outcome)
  • 2 scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream (Higher the quality, better the result and don’t be a miser )
  • Coffee Decoction or Coffee Liqueur  (add based on preferred strength)
  • Powdered Sugar (Optional)

Cold Coffee

Put all of this in a Blender/Mixer/Food processor, and run it for 30-40 seconds.Pour out contents into a Glass and enjoy .

This beautiful little desert can help you replace your hot coffee you prefer after breakfast or lunch and if you want to make the most of it ( I am assuming that you travel using human transportation) you can put it in a reusable plastic glass with a straw attached to it and take it with you, while you  make your way through mundane traffic.

Hope this helps in taking the “heat” head on and when it comes to coffee, we got you covered , click on the link below .

Good wishes for the season and Happy Coffee Drinking !

Coffee Chronicles : Chapter 2

“I believe, humans get a lot done, NOT because we’re smart, but because we have thumbs so we can make coffee”, I personally, wholeheartedly, support this pronouncement from Flash Rosenberg.

Where would the world stand today, if it wasn’t for the Brew of the Gods?

The discovery of coffee has enlarged the realm of illusion and given more promise to hope.I’m quite sure Alexander, in counsel with his generals, inspired by a hot freshly brewed coffee in his ruby encrusted chalice said, “Heaven cannot brook 2 suns, nor Earth 2 masters!” and thus proceeded to conquer the world.

We, my co-founder and I, live our lives measurable in coffee breaks. In other words, coffee features quite prominently in both our lives, as I am immensely sure, it does in yours.

The not-so-humble coffee, (yeah, tea is humble, coffee isn’t anything of the sort!), dons several roles.

He’s the early morning friend, whom you hate to love. He’s the one you turn to, to pick you up and dust you off, during the middle of a particularly grueling day. He sits patiently beside you while you mull the eccentricities of the world around, gallantly bears your own and then some.

Coffee never betrays, never fails you and most importantly, he never ever disappoints you. Every cup you brew, every sip you take is the start of a new love affair.

Our only hope is that we can play Cupid and help you find your one true, lifelong love.

Cheers.

Coffee Chronicles : Chapter 1

Justina Chen writes in North of Beautiful – “Adventure in life is good; consistency in coffee even better” .

That’s all, In my mind I seriously don’t see the need to write anymore and YOU My dear Coffee Lover don’t need to read anymore. But my Boss withholds MY cup of coffee promised TO ME at the end of this rant. So on wards I must wade on Why Coffee , How Coffee ? (AND, Where’s MY Coffee?).

Do you remember your very tryst with this bitter grainy powder, this weird dark powder which very soon would become quite the life partner, our soul mate for those early misty mornings and the grey rainy evenings. The lover who appreciates the 55 shades of literature, The Friend for those weekend long TV series binges, The Knight in shining armour for the late night movie and is still happy to be relegated to the corner of our cluttered work table going cold and flat. (finish THAT cup, it has feelings too!)

I remember my first few memories of this, my most favourite elixir, being the creamy frothy semi liquid concoction assiduously whipped into being by my mother for the guests who didn’t go for the usual tea. I remember slyly pinching a finger of this concoction of milk, hot water, coffee powder and sugar and licking it whole. Ahh! The memory still lingers close by only to come to the fore when I smell great coffee anywhere in the world.

Coffee, for those in the know, is not just a drink, neither a means to while away time. It is, but, a way to steal time that should by rights belong to our older self.

We want to bring this love for coffee to you Dear Reader, open in you, this Dam of memories attached to our beloved coffee in its purest most loving form.

We raise you a mug and toast for the longevity of this love affair.

Salud .

P.S. – “Mercy”, I mumble to my Boss, “What have you done to MY french roast!”

Our ‘fix’

The exciting part of being in the coffee and tea business is, that even though there are so many people who are into selling of coffee and tea, there is always room for creativity.

It has been very interesting the past few months and our creativity is tuned for full throttle.

From different coffee blends, to packaging ,to different marketing ideas, its been a blast.

Everyday seems to bring about something new. Always keeping us on our feet.

So an update on where we are today.

The packaging bit is almost finalized.

We have decided to initially have 7 blends on offer and as when we progress we will keep mixing it up with at least 2 of them .

Marketing wise,

We also  have something very interesting coming up in the pipeline which is of course a secret and we promise that the wait is worth it.

So the question is , what’s your fix ?

#whatsyourfix

Enlightenment !

Standing in front of the filter, waiting for the concoction to fill up the bottom compartment.

Sitting in a cafe four months ago, talking about all the different things under the sun and realizing that the every conversation on any topic seems to be much more enhanced. The reason behind this, was the coffee we were sipping, enjoying the sweet rustic taste, passing from the tongue onto the back of the throat, feeling the warmth travelling down from the face to the chest. The caffeine kicking in, increasing the awareness as well as improving brain functionality only to make us come alive !

And here is where the idea started to form. Coffee and Tea, the true elixirs of life or as we would call it, the “SomRas”.

So who are we really ? In one sentence, Coffee and Tea lovers.

Coffee of course seems to be an everyday thing for the likes of us, but a great cup of ginger milk tea when it rains, with a plate of ‘bhajiyas’ on the side make the experience a very satisfying one.

But in true sense, what was it that made the experience so complete ? That was the most basic question that we put ourselves in front of. The quality of the raw coffee bean and tea leaf.

So here we are, keeping it painfully simple….
